Day 14 - Saturday 8th September

Mauriac – L'Isle Jourdain

Distance – 233km

Overview.  An interesting run down to the plains and then a bit of a drag along the freeways.

L'Isle Jourdain Snapshot . . .

History – L’Isle Jourdain is characterised by its impressive 50m viaduct (formerly a railway bridge) joining the opposite banks of the picturesque Vienne River. The valley is dominated by the Eglise Saint Gervais and Saint Protais, an imposing 11th century structure. Also of significance is the 13th century Eglise St Paixent. The town is situated close to Le Vigeant, which is home to the Val de Vienne racing circuit, offering many events throughout the year.

Elevation – 87 – 183m

Population – 1,300

Heading Home . . .

Today's ride was only ever going to be a transit to L'Isle Jourdain.  So after breakfast in the hotel we got everything ready 'for the last time' and were on the road by about 9:30am . . . another record!

The first part of today from Mauriac down onto the plain was a lot of fun as we blasted our way through coniferous forests and around the edge of various lakes - but I would rather forget the drag along the freeway bit.  Some the places we went through were Marcillac-la-Croisille (B), Seilhac (C) and Limoges (D).

Well on the way home

Arrival . . .

We all arrived safely in L’Isle Jourdain – although I demonstrated that the SV will go for 214km before the fuel light comes on and at least 238km without running out of fuel!!

I had a little more riding to do later in the afternoon . . . John and I went across to Poitiers to collect a hire car.

So that's about it for the main part of the journey . . . we had a delightful time covering the 3,176km around the Picos, Pyrenees, Costa Brava and the Cantals taking in some of the best roads and scenery on offer.  We were only rained on twice and there was only one 'mishap' when the GS 'had a little rest'.  Mind you, it's not exactly all over as we intend doing some other riding on at least one other day this coming week - so long as it doesn't get too hot!

And a bonus is that I have developed a deep and meaningful relationship with the SV!

Arrival – and first get a baguette

The Power Rangers are finally ‘home’ . . .

. . .  and look which one arrived first!

Welcoming Jim and Cathy
